Can placeholder fields in forms automatically fill in information for the person filling out the form?
Answer: Yes, but with some important distinctions. Placeholder fields can automatically insert specific information to save time, but they are limited to data directly related to the form session itself (like who is filling it out and when), rather than pulling comprehensive details from your student information system (SIS).
✅ Information That CAN Be Auto-Filled
The following details are automatically available and can be used to pre-populate fields in your forms. This helps reduce repetitive typing for your staff and families.
- @ProfileName => student/staff full name
- @ProfielFirstName => student/staff first name
- @ContactName => parent full name. (Not available in Community Edition. Not available for staff)@ContactFirstName => parent first name. (Not available in Community Edition. Not available for staff)
- Date placeholders@MonthDayYear => Eg. August 12, 2020
- @DayName => Eg. Wednesday
- @Day => Eg. 12
- @MonthName => Eg. January
- @Year => Eg. 2020
Example: When a parent opens a student permission slip, the "Student Name" and "Student ID" fields can be automatically populated, and the form can record the parent's name and the date of submission.
❌ Information That CANNOT Be Auto-Filled
Currently, placeholder fields cannot automatically pull demographic or roster-based information from your SIS.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Class Name
- Homeroom/Teacher Name
- Address or Phone Number
